Itinerary: Aquarius - Cortal Gran - Cinc Claus - Les Corts - Camp dels Pilans - Sobrestany - Bellcaire - Tor - Garrigoles - Vilopriu - Sant Miquel de Fluvià – north bank Fluvià - Torroella de Fluvià - St. Pere Pescador – Aquarius
Surroundings: At the beginning the tour takes us through fruit plantations and agricultural fields, passing by several „Masias“ typically built in stone. Following a dirt road at the western end of L'Escala we find pine forests to the left and the plain of L`Estany with extensive rice fields on the right side. We continue towards Tor passing Bellcaire, where we leave the flatland and continue along the mountains of "Sant Grau" crossing pine forests on comfortable dirt tracks until arriving at Garrigoles. Here, the small square in front of the medieval church, is the ideal spot to pause and regain strength. Towards Vilopriu and Valldevià we ride a little up- and downhill on a paved road, but eventually we´ll be rewarded with a wonderful view of the bay and towards Aquarius. We continue along paved road to St. Mori and St. Miquel's bridge, here the bikes almost cruise alone through woods and fields. After the bridge, the route goes mainly by trails along the river Fluvià and through the wetlands until San Pere Pescador. Those who at this point still do not have enough, can add an additional round by circling the dunes towards Aquarius.
Highlights: Architectural complex built on a Roman settlement "Cinc Claus" (5 houses). Romantic village squares with their Romanesque churches (mostly closed). The diversity of flora and fauna along the river Fluvià.
Don`t forget: sun protection, sufficient drinks (water, isotonic drinks), energy food, comfortable clothing, spare clothing (when sweating or freezing), rainwear if needed and BEING IN A GOOD MOOD ;-)
